Abstract

The download material offers you four different interviews with women working in ICT. They describe their career progression, their activities and roles in the company. Two of these interviews are by a company's Career Portal to give insights into staff careers and working areas.

Training Objectives

Four women, an IT-manager, a supervisor in a software development department, a marketing manager and an electro engineering technician describe their jobs in a very personal way. They give an account of their attitudes, the requirements of their jobs, the positive aspects and the difficulties.
Annett who is supervisor in software development likes involving her creativity and working in a team. But she also reports: “It’s not easy for women working in technical fields. You always have to convince the male employees of your competence - and that is a real hard job!”
Anja, an electro engineering technician, likes the challenge in her job.
Ellen is IT manager and Sandra marketing manager at Siemens mobile. They describe on the Siemens Career Website why they like to work in the company and what they suspect from new colleagues.
This collection of interviews helps women to get an image of job tasks, requirements and perspectives.
The very personal descriptions may motivate young women considering working in ICT fields too.

Training Design
For example, read the interviews and find out the differences and the overlapping between the reports. Discuss the motivation of the women working in the ICT field and their career progression. You can use these interviews as motivation examples for young women to decide for following technical careers. Further there is the possibility to take these presentations as templates for your own website to provide practical and personal insights into working conditions in your company.
